One Corny Kid

Calvin has found a new food to add to his list of favorite foods.
"Why haven't you given this to me sooner?
Is this how you do it?
 Because it tastes good.
 Let me dig in!
 Hmmm, where to bite next?
 Oh, who cares!"
Calvin will be thrilled once the good stuff comes in later this summer (assuming it does, given the drought).

Chickadees

On Tuesday,  we went to a little concert at one of the local libraries.
These are The Chickadees. They had some loyal followers there, with T-shirts and all.
 Calvin enjoyed the music.
Most of the time he was the only kid standing up and clapping along (as best he could).
I think they made a new fan.

Mommy's Helper

The other day I was cleaning and Calvin wanted to help. I wasn't going to stop him.
Thanks, Calvin!

Fountains of Fun

Last week, we met some friends at the mall near our house for some fun in the fountain they have there.
Calvin had to observe what was going to happen.
 And when it did,
He was pretty sure he didn't want to be part of it.
Chip (in the hooded shirt), on the other hand,
 couldn't get enough.
Calvin and Amelia thought this was a perfectly good place to watch the action .
And then, of course, we had to take a break to eat. Calvin had to check out the view from Chip's trike.
Maybe next time, or next summer, he will be more brave.

Baby Jolene

So the last time we saw our good friend Auntie Laura was at her baby shower back in May (this is her with her mom).
Now, we are SOOOOOOOOOO excited to welcome their new little baby girl, Jolene Mabel!
We cannot wait to meet her!
She looks like such a sweetie pie!

Life's a Beach

We went to a Lake Michigan beach a few weeks ago.
We had to walk down a big hill
 and through the forest.
There were wild turkeys on the hills.
Surprisingly, Calvin kept his distance from the water at first.
Slowly he made his way over to the water.
He would get close but not go in
He stole, I mean, borrowed some sand toys from some other kids.

He loved finding stones and throwing them in the water.
And then running away from the waves.
Eventually he got brave enough to venture in with his daddy.
And to look for more stones.
Superman isn't afraid of the water!

Then we had to head back up the big hill to get home.
A fun day at the beach!

Parading Around

We hope everyone had a great 4th of July! Calvin was feeling patriotic.
After playing at the neighbor's house across the street, we headed to the parade.
Calvin was immediately interested in the noisy things coming down the street
and had to wave at them.
He saw the veterans,
the firemen,
the German marching band (in WOOL hats!),
the cheerleaders (the only people in the parade dressed in the right amount of clothes for this hot weather),
the neighbor boy, Cole, walking with his baseball team,
 the ponies,
 the bagpipers (in WOOL kilts),
and Magic Melvin and his Wacky Wheel.
We tried to keep Calvin cool with water but it was HOT HOT HOT!
Calvin took a seat next to the neighbor girl from across the street, Sienna.
He was quite fascinated by her.
He tried to impress her with his patriotism by waving his flag for her
because he really wanted her to share her lollipop.
Finally we got too hot and had to head back to air conditioning.
